Ava Jalali is one of the main characters in the book series (and possibly upcoming Freeform television series) The Perfectionists. She is one of the suspects in Nolan's murder, along with the other four main characters. She is alarmingly beautiful and often uses it to her advantage.
Ava was born in Beacon Heights to her parents, an interracial couple. In high school she lost her mother to a drunk driver accident. This caused her to focus all of her attention on schoolwork becoming an honor student, however this caused Nolan to spread rumors about her hooking up with teachers to get good grades. Her father eventually remarried to her stepmother, who is nothing but evil towards her.
During film class, she receives a C on one of her assignments. Ava never gets C's, so she talks to the teacher after class. He says to meet her at his house for extra credit. Innocently, Ava agrees. Once she shows up, he attempts to seduce her but Ava is not comfortable. He refuses to change her grade unless she provides sexual favors for him. Ava runs out, scared.
However, the girls later believe that he is Nolan's murderer. Ava must go back with the girls and pretends to seduce him, which is really a distraction while the girls look through his things.
Her stepmother has also been threatening Ava and hurting her, for example digging her nails into her arm when Ava did not do something she asked.
Ava is alarmingly pretty half Iranian and half Irish girl. She is described to have dark hair. She has also been noted to have smooth caramel skin and alluring almond eyes.
Alex and Ava are boyfriend and girlfriend in the books. At one point he tells the police about Ava and her friends being at the teachers house and they get questioned about it. Ava wonders why Alex would do this to her, and he simply say sit was because he believed they were hooking up. Once the Nolan Hotchkiss murder mystery is solved, they get back together.
Julie and Ava have been best friends since Nolan Hotchkiss's party. They were both suspected in killing Nolan Hotchkiss.
